After reading this peom I thought of summer when I was little. There was no school and most days, no planned activities either. I was free to do whatever I wanted, or so it felt. ThisĀ peom made me think of walking to the park with my dad and my older sister. It made me think of playing beanie babies for hours in the front yard with my sister. It made me think about our swingset with the trapeze and the fort and the sandbox. But most of all, this peom made me think of the lake.
Every summer that I can remember, we have been going to the lake with my cousinsĀ over 4th of July. These are lazy summer days where you can get up whenever you are ready to and go to bed whenever you start to get tired. There are bikes and power wheels cars to ride up and down the almost empty country roads. You can go intertubing or skiing or just ride in the boat. Across the street, there are woods with birds and deer and squirrels where you can go exploring. There is almost always some game going on like dominoes or cards. These days are what makes and has made summer great for me. They are the complete opposite of school days where you have to wake up at a certain time and get ready in a certain amount of time and wear this and go to this class for this amount of time and follow these rules and do this work. At the lake, I feel free. This is what the poem means to me.

Although adding fluoride to drinking water is believed to reduce cavities, many people are opposed to this plan. Fluoride has been linked to bone cancer and thyroid disease. Also, some people claim that we are now getting too much fluoride since fluoride is in toothpaste, mouthwash, and any drinks made in areas where water is fluorinated. Toothpaste has been in toothpaste since the 1950’s. Because of the high reactivity of flourine, changes had to be made in order for it to be used in toothpaste. Scientists changed the ingredients in the toothpastes in order to put flourine in toothpaste.
I think that because I have had so many cavities, that adding fluoride to drinking water would be helpful. Cavities are painful, annoying and expensive and preventing them can only be a good thing. Maybe we could just barely fluorinate the water with the smallest dose possible to help cavities. This could reduce the risk of cavities as well as reducing the risk of the dangers of adding fluorine to water. Even though I do think that adding fluoride to drinking water is a good idea, I am slightly concerned about the risk of bone cancer. This scares me because of how serious cancer is. I would rather have a few cavities than possibly die form cancer. However, since the risk of cancer is very small, I think that adding fluoride to water is a good idea.
